RN Vision-STS – GT4 European Series Brands Hatch

Die deutsche RN Vision STS-Mannschaft hat bei der zweiten Runde der GT4 European Series in Brands Hatch unterschiedliches Rennglück in beiden Rennen erlebt. Während man im ersten Lauf aufgrund einer lückenhaften Neudefinition der Boxenstoppregeln und eines von vielen Unterbrechungen geprägten Rennablaufs unter die Räder des 47 Wagen starken Feldes kam, schafften es im zweiten Heat alle 3 Autos in die Punkte. Für zwei Wagen lagen beim turbulenten Rennverlauf zeitweise sogar Podiumsplätze in Griffweite.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #110; Beitske Visser/Dennis Marschall (Silver-Cup):
An diesem Wochenende vertrat BMW-Junior Dennis Marschall Stammpilot Nico Menzel im BMW M4 GT4-Werksjunioren-Auto an der Seite von Beitske Visser.  Die BMW Motorsport Junioren kamen im ersten Lauf, der nach einem Unfall abgebrochen wurde im Hinterfeld auf Gesamtrang 31 ins Ziel. Im zweiten Rennen startete Dennis Marschall von Gesamtrang 14, konnte aber bis zum Boxenstopp 2 Positionen gut machen. Beitske Visser lieferte sich danach einen Aufsehen erregenden Kampf um Gesamtrang 4 mit den Konkurrenten. Am Ende kreuzte  die schnelle Niederländerin als Sechste die Ziellinie. Sie steht nun nach diesem Wochenende auf Rang 7 in der Fahrerwertung der Silvercup-Klasse.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #111 Gabriele Piana/Razvan Umbrarescu (Silver-Cup):
Für das erste Rennen qualifizierte Razvan Umbrarescu die #111 auf Startplatz 12. Im Rennen kämpfte er sich nach einem phantastischen Start bis auf P4 durch das Feld. Die Probleme begannen als eine lange Safetycar-Phase kurz vor dem Boxenstopfenster ausgerufen wurde.

Die Organisation der Serie hatte nach den Erfahrungen bei der Auftaktrunde in Zolder die Regularien bezüglich der Boxenstopfenster für die einzelnen Klassen angepasst und klassenabhängige Fenster definiert. Allerdings war das Verfahren für einen Stopp unter dem Safetycar nicht genau definiert worden. Dahre verpasste das Team den optimalen Zeitpunkt für das Boxenstopfenster der Silver-Cup-Autos und fiel an das Ende des Feldes zurück. Ein erneutes Safetycar kurz nach dem Restart und ein Rennabbruch mit roter Flagge verhinderten eine mögliche Positionsverbesserung und somit stand am Ende nur Gesamtplatz 32 zu Buche.

Für Rennen 2 konnte Gabriele Piana im 2.Qualifying Startplatz 4 (=P3 in der Klasse) herausfahren. Ein optimaler Start liess den BMW M4 GT4 des schnellen Italieners auf in den ersten Runden bis auf P2 vorstossen. Er war gerade damit beschäftigt den Führenden zu attackieren, als eine umstrittene Entscheidung der Rennleitung bezüglich der Gridformation beim Start Piana zu einer Durchfahrtsstrafe zwang. Dadurch, und weil zusätzlich auch die aus Zolder bekannten Getriebeprobleme zurück kehrten fiel Piana bis auf P30 zurück. Doch dieses Mal fand das Team das richtige Timing des wiederum unter dem Safetycar abgehaltenen Pflichtboxenstops. Razvan Umbrarescu kam auf P11 wieder zurück ins rennen und konnte bis zum Rennende noch eine Position hinzugewinnen. So holte die Mannschaft in Brands Hatch zumindest noch einen Punkt.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #112 Pavel Lefterov/Miguel Christovão (Pro-Am-Cup):
Miguel Christovão qualifizierte den Pro-Am-BMW des Teams für Lauf 1 auf dem Gesamt-6.ten Rang. Auch diese Mannschaft wurde ein Opfer der geänderten Boxenstoppregeln und musste am Ende einen ernüchternden 33.ten Gesamtrang (12.ter in der Pro-Am) abhaken.

Für Lauf 2 startete Lefterov von einem im Qualifying hervorragend erzielten Gesamtrang 12 (Platz 6 in der Klasse). Mit einem fehlerfreien Stint kämpfte der Bulgare sich bis zur Übergabe des Autos auf Gesamtrang 7 und Klassenrang 4 nach vorne. Zwar bedeutete das Boxenstopfenster für die Pro-Am, das Co-Pilot Christovão auf Gesamtrang 20 zurück fiel. Doch auch der Portugiese konnte zwischenzeitlich noch Positionen gut machen und kämpfte sich auf P2 vor. Im Kampf um die Klassenführung erlitt der Portugiese dann einen Dreher, wodurch er um einige Positionen zurück fiel. Mit Gesamtrang 20 und Rang 6 in der Klasse sammelte das Duo am Ende seine ersten 8 Punkte in der Pro-Am-Wertung ein.

Razvan Umbrarescu bilanzierte am Ende ein turbulentes zweites Rennen in Brands Hatch: „Das war eine reine Achterbahnfahrt für mich und Gabriele. Wir sind bis auf P2 nach vorne gekommen, haben uns nach der Durchfahrtsstrafe zurück gekämpft, die richtigen strategischen Entscheidungen beim Boxenstop getroffen und unseren ersten Punkt eingefahren. Platz 10 Gesamt und in unserer Klasse war am Ende hart erkämpft. Jetzt können wir erhobenen Hauptes nach Misano reisen.“

Teambesitzer Marek Zuchowski erlebte vom Ergebnis her 2 sehr unterschiedliche Rennen in Brands Hatch: „In den Qualifyings haben alle Teams gezeigt das sie mit um vordere Plätze kämpfen können. Im ersten Rennen haben uns leider die geänderten Regeln zusammen mit der Safetycar-Phase einen dicken Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht. In Lauf 2 hat Gabriele ja zu Beginn in der Führungsgruppe mitgekämpft. Das ist zumindest ein schwacher Trost in Bezug auf die fragwürdige Strafe, die sein hervorragendes Qualifying-Resultat entwertet hatte.

Ich freue mich für Beitske, die mit einem weiteren guten Resultat ihr Punktekonto ausbauen konnte. Auch Pavel und Miguel haben im 2. Rennen eindrucksvoll bewiesen, dass die #112 in der PRO-AM Klasse siegfähig ist. Leider verhinderte ein einziger Fahrfehler den Sieg oder zumindest einen Podiumsplatz. Positiv war im zweiten Lauf zumindest, dass alle unsere Autos in den Top10 mitgekämpft haben und auch alle in die Punkte gefahren sind. Das lässt uns zuversichtlich in die nächste Runde in Misano am 23-24 Juni gehen.“

The German RN Vision STS racing team experienced two very different races at last weekend’s second round of the GT4 European Series at Brands Hatch: In race 1 the team found itself at the back-end of the 47-car-strong field due to an insufficiently clear redefinition of the pit stop rules and a high number of full-course-yellows. In contrast to that, all three of the team’s cars managed to score championship points in the 2nd heat, with two of them coming close to a podium finish…

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #110; Beitske Visser/Dennis Marschall (Silver-Cup):
For this weekend’s races, BMW-Junior Dennis Marschall replaced Beitske Visser’s regular co-pilot Nico Menzel behind the wheel of the official BMW Junior car. In the 1st race, which was terminated prematurely after a competitor’s accident, the two BMW Motorsport Juniors finished at the back of the field in 31st place overall. In the 2nd race, Dennis Marshall startet from 14th position and managed to move up by two positions before the pitstop. Beitske Visser then got involved in an exciting battle for 4th place overall and crossed the finish line in 6th position. With two race weekends completeted, Visser now sits in 7th position in the Silver-Cup-standings.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #111 Gabriele Piana/Razvan Umbrarescu (Silver-Cup):
Razvan Umbrarescu had qualified the #111 in a strong 12th place on the grid for race 1 and managed to gain after a phantastic start several positions up to P4. The car and its crew began to run into trouble when the safety car came on track shortly before the opening of the pit stop window. After the previous race weekend at Zolder, the series organization had changed the pit stop regulations and had mandated different pit stop windows for the different classes. Unfortunately, there had been no precise provisions for what should be done in the event of a safety car period during the pit stop window. Thus the team miss-timed the stop for its Silver-Cup-cars and slipped down the order towards the back end of the field. An additional safety car period shortly after the restart and the eventual premature finish of the race under a red-flag deprived the team of the chance to regain lost ground. The #111 thus finished in 32nd position overall.

For race two, Gabriele Piana had managed to place the car in an excellent 4th position on the grid, and 3rd position in the Silver-Cup-class. At the start of the race, the quick Italian moved up into 2dn position overall. He was about to attack the leading car, when a controversial decision by the stewards of the race sent him to pit lane to serve a drive through penalty for improper positioning at the start of the race. As a consequence, and because the gearbox problems from Zolder made another appearance, Piana fell back to 30th position. This time, however, the team managed to perfectly time the pit stop, which was once again held under safety car conditions; thus Razvan Umbrarescu rejoined the race in 11th position and then gained another place, netting the team a 10th place finish and thus one point for the championship.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #112 Pavel Lefterov/Miguel Christovão (Pro-Am-Cup):
Miguel Christovão had scored the 6th grid position for the 1st race in the team’s Pro-Am-BMW. But much like the team’s other entries, the #112 fell victim to the new pit stop regulations and finished the race in 33rd place overall and 12th position in the Pro-Am-standings. In the 2nd race, Lefterov started from a strong 12th place overall and 6th position in his class. Until the pit stop, the Bulgar had made his way up to 7th place overall and 4th position in class. The timing of the pit stop window for the Pro-Am-entries meant that the car had fallen back to 20th position overall when Christovão took over the wheel. The Portuguese was able to gain several positions, up to P2 in class. While fighting for the class-lead the Portuguise suffered from a spin which costed several positions.  Coming home in 20th position overall and 6th place in the Pro-Am-class, the team scored their first 8 points for the Pro-Am-championship standings.

Razvan Umbrarescu commented on the second race: “This was a real roller coaster for me and Gabriele. We got up to 2nd position, fought back after the drive-through, took the right strategy call at the pit stop and earned our first championship point. We really had to fight hard to finish in 10th place overall and in our class. Now we can move on to Misano with our heads held high.“

Team owner Marek Zuchowski experienced two very different races at Brands Hatch: “All our crews showed in qualifying that they are able to fight for positions at the top of the field. In the first race, our chances were foiled by the new pit stop rules and the safety car period. But at least Gabriele was fighting at the top of the field in the early stages of race 2. This is a small consolation for the questionable call by the stewards that made his excellent qualifying performance worthless. I’m happy for Beitske who was able to earn some more championship points with another good result. Also Pavel and Miguel proved in the 2nd race that the #112 is apotetial classs-winner in the PRO-AM. Just a small driving error costed us a win or the podium. Another positive aspect of the 2nd race was that all our cars were able to fight for positions in the top-10 and scored points. Thus we can be confident for the next round in Misano on June 23 and 24.“
