RN Vision STS hat beim Saisonfinale der GT4 European Series  am heimischen Nürburgring einen weiteren Laufsieg im 45 Wagen starken Feld erringen können. Nach dem Sieg am Hungaroring vor 2 Wochen gelang den beiden BMW M4 GT4 Junioren Beitske Visser und Nico Menzel ein Gesamtsieg im ersten Lauf am Ring. Sie sind damit in dieser Saison das erste Piloten-Duo in der Meisterschaft das 2 Rennen in Folge gewinnen konnte. In Lauf 2, dem letzten Rennen der Serie in dieser Saison, stiegen beide auf Platz 2 erneut aufs Podium. Abgerundet wurde dieses Rennen zudem durch ein weiteres Pro-Am-Podiumsergebnis für den #112 BMW von Lefterov/Christovão.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #110; Beitske Visser/Nico Menzel (Silver-Cup):
Eine starke Performance von BMW-Junior Nico Menzel führte das an diesem Wochenende stärkste Auto des Teams im ersten Qualifying auf Gesamtstartplatz 4. Menzel zeigte im ersten Rennen einen Raketenstart und übernahm in der ersten Runde die Spitze des 45 Wagen starken Feldes. Der am Nürburgring wohnhafte BMW-Junior übergab den Wagen in Führung liegend an Beitske Visser, die in den letzten Rennminuten die Spitze in einem spannenden Zweikampf gegen den Equipe Verschuur-McLaren verteidigte und so den 2. Sieg in Folge für die Mannschaft sicherte.

Rennen 2 nahm Visser von der 14.Startposition auf. Sie profitierte von einem turbulenten Startgeschehen und fand sich nach einer Runde auf P8 hinter dem Safetycar wieder. Das Auto übergab die Niederländerin nach der erneuten Startfreigabe auf P5 an Nico Menzel. Der zeigte erneut eine überzeugende Performance und konnte bis auf den führenden McLaren alle vor sich liegenden Konkurenten ein- und überholen. Den Finallauf beendete man mit Gesamtrang 2 erneut auf dem Podium. Beitske Visser sicherte sich dadurch Rang 6 in der Silver-Wertung der Meisterschaft 2018.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #111 Gabriele Piana/Razvan Umbrarescu (Silver-Cup):
Rennen 1 nahm das rumänisch/italienisch Duo von der 26.ten Position her auf. Umbrarescu machte gleich am Start 6 Positionen gut und konnte den BMW zu Rennmitte auf P18 an Piana übergeben. Der lag 9 Minuten vor dem Ende schon auf Gesamtplatz 7, bis ihn eine Durchfahrtsstrafe aufgrund eines Gelbvergehens 8 Plätze kostete. Auf Platz 12 (P11 Silber-Klasse) beendete man das Rennen.
Im Qualifying zu Lauf 2 erzielte Piana mit einer 2:04,541 und Gesamtrang 2 die schnellste Qualifyingrunde aller 3 Wagen des Teams an diesem Wochenende. Leider unterlief ihm beim Start ein Verbremser der zum Dreher eines Mitkonkurrenten führte. Die Rennleitung verhing eine Durchfahrtsstrafe die den BMW beim Restart auf die letzte Position zurück warf. Piana und sein Copilot Umbrarescu steckten jedoch nicht auf und fuhren sich bis zum Ende des Rennens auf Platz 9 und Klassenrang 6 wieder nach vorne in die Punkte. Damit belegten beide hinter Beitske Visser Rang 7 in der Silver-Cup Wertung der Meisterschaft

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #112 Pavel Lefterov/Miguel Christovão (Pro-Am-Cup):
Im Qualifying gelang dem Auto von Christovao/Lefterov lediglich die Startplätze 29 bzw. 15 woraufhin das Team für das Rennen entscheidende Setup-Änderungen vornahm. Leider wurde ein mögliches Top-Ergebnis in Lauf 1 durch einen frühen Rammstoss eines Konkurrenten und einem anschliessenden Dreher vereitelt. Nach einer bei der Aufholjagd eingehandelten Durchfahrtsstrafe fiel man sogar auf P42 zurück. Pavel Lefterov zeigte daraufhin in seinem Stint eine überzeugende Vorstellung die ihn 21 Plätze nach vorne führte und dem Duo mit P21 & Klassenrang 5 weitere Punkte fürs Team sicherte.
Lauf 2 nahm man von der 15.ten Position und Klassenrang 5 auf. Startfahrer Lefterov arbeitete sich auf Rang 2 nach vorne. Im Anschluss zeigte nun Christovao eine kämpferische Leistung als er sich mit den beiden führenden Autos der Kategorie einen Dreikampf um den Klassensieg lieferte. Am Ende stieg das Duo als Klassendritter und Gesamt-8.ter auf das Podium der Pro-Am und sicherte sich dadurch Rang 4 in der Endtabelle der Pro-Am-Wertung.

Beitske Visser: „Das war ein perfektes Wochenende für uns. Im Qualifying zu Lauf 2 waren wir nicht so gut wie erwartet, aber wir wussten das der Wagen über die Renndistanz eine hohe Pace halten kann. Nico hat beim Start zu Lauf 1 direkt die Spitze erobern können und die haben wir auch das ganze Rennen über behalten. Es war am Ende eng mit dem McLaren aber ich konnte ihn am Ende doch hinter mir halten und den Sieg einfahren. In Lauf 2  hatte ich einen guten Start und konnte mich direkt zu Beginn auf P8 verbessern. Nach dem Safetycar hatten wir eines der schnellsten Autos auf der Strecke was mir zusätzliche Überholmanöver ermöglicht hat. Von P14 bis auf 2 vorzufahren fühlt sich wie ein Sieg an.“

Nico Menzel: „Ich wohne ja nur 8 Minuten von hier entfernt. Der Nürburgring ist quasi mein Wohnzimmer. Im Qualifying habe ich mich über mich selbst geärgert, denn die Pole wäre hier möglich gewesen. Lauf 1 lief dafür perfekt: Nach Turn 2 waren wir vorne und dann konnte ich einen Gap von 3-4s herausfahren. Den konnte Beitske gut verteidigen und das war dann der Sieg. Beitske hatte in Lauf 2 einen Mega-Start. Ich habe nach der Übernahme 2-3 Runden im Qualimodus in den Asphalt gebrannt. Dadurch sind wir knapp am KTM vorbeigekommen und den späteren Champion habe ich anschliessend auch noch überholt. Der McLaren war vorne zu weit weg, daher habe ich gegen Ende lieber Reifen gespart falls doch noch ein Safety-Car kommen würde, aber das ist dann leider nicht passiert.“

Teambesitzer Marek Zuchowski „Für mich war es überwältigend mitzuerleben wie mein Team die 2.Saisonhälfte der GT4 European Series klar dominiert hat. In den letzten 4 Rennen haben wir 2 Gesamtsiege und 3 weitere Podiumsplätze erreicht. Das hat 2018 kein anderes Team geschafft! Am Ende hat es für unsere Fahrer und auch das Team für vordere Plätze im allen Kategorien gereicht. Das widerspiegelt den Verlauf der Saison mit einem schwierigen Anfang und einer fulminanten Entwicklung im weiteren Verlauf.
Insgesamt bin ich unendlich Stolz auf die Leistung des gesamten Teams und aller Fahrer. Ich möchte mich herzlich bei allen bedanken, insbesondere auch bei BMW Motorsport die uns mit tollen Fahrzeugen ausgestattet und phantastische BMW Junioren anvertraut hat. Nach dem Rennen ist vor dem Rennen – Ich sehe mit großer Spannung und Zuversicht der kommenden Saison 2019 entgegen!“

RN Vision STS has gained another race victory at the season finale of the GT4 European Series at their hometrack Nürburgring. After the victory at the Hungaroring two weeks ago, the two BMW M4 GT4 Juniors Beitske Visser and Nico Menzel managed another overall victory in the massive 45 car-strong field in the first race at the Ring, making them the first duo in the championship to win two races in a row. In heat 2, the final race of this season, both climbed back to the podium on position 2. This weekend was rounded off for the team by another Pro Am podium result for the #112 BMW from Lefterov/Christovão.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #110; Beitske Visser/Nico Menzel (Silver-Cup):
A strong performance by BMW Junior Nico Menzel led the team’s strongest car this weekend to 4th place overall in the first qualifying session. Menzel showed a rocket start in the first race and took the lead of the 45-car field in the first lap. The 21-year old German, who is a local at the Nürburgring, handed over the car in the lead to Beitske Visser, who defended P1 in the last minutes of the race in an exciting duel against the Equipe Verschuur-McLaren and thus secured the second victory in a row for the team.
Visser started race 2 from the 14th position. She profited from a turbulent start and found herself behind the safety car on P8 after one lap. The car was handed over to Nico Menzel  on P5. Menzel showed again a convincing performance and was able to overtake all competitors in front of him except the leading McLaren. The seasonfinal ended with another podium with P2 overall. Beitske Visser thus secured 6th place in the Silver ranking of the 2018 championship.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #111 Gabriele Piana/Razvan Umbrarescu (Silver-Cup):
The Romanian/Italian duo started heat 1 from 26th position. Umbrarescu made up 6 positions right at the start and was able to hand over the BMW to Piana on P18. 9 minutes before the end he was already on 7th place, until a drive-through penalty for a yellow offence costed him 8 places, which led to an eventual finish on P12 (P11 in silver class).
In the qualifying for race 2 Piana achieved the fastest qualifying round of all 3 cars of the team this weekend with a 2:04,541 and overall 2nd place. Unfortunately at the start he was involved in an contact which led to the spin of a competitor. The race control imposed a drive-through penalty which threw the BMW back to the last position at the restart. However, Piana and his co-driver Umbrarescu didn’t give up and drove themselves up to the front on P9 and class rank 6 in the points. Both ended as 7th behind Beitske Visser in the Silver Cup ranking of the championship.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #112 Pavel Lefterov/Miguel Christovão (Pro-Am-Cup):
In qualifying, Christovão/Lefterov’s car only managed to finish 29th and 15th respectively on the grid, after which the team made decisive setup changes for the race. Unfortunately, a possible top result in race 1 was thwarted by an early impact of a competitor and a following spin. After a drive-through penalty imposed during the catch up, they even dropped back to P42. Pavel Lefterov then showed in his stint a convincing performance, overtook 21 opponents and secured the duo with P21 & fifth in class further points for the team.

Run 2 started from 15th position and class rank 5. Startdriver Lefterov worked his way up to 2nd place. Afterwards Christovão showed a fighting performance when he fought a three-way-fight for the class victory with the two leading cars of the category. In the end, the duo climbed onto the podium of the Pro-Am as third in the class and 8th overall, thus securing fourth place in the final table of the Pro-Am classification.

Beitske Visser: „It was a perfect weekend for us. In qualifying for race 2 we weren’t as good as expected, but we knew that the car could keep a high pace over the race distance. Nico was able to take the lead directly at the start of race 1 and we kept it throughout the race. In the end it was close with the McLaren but I managed to keep it behind me and win the race. In race 2 I had a good start and was able to improve to P8 right at the beginning. After the safety car we had one of the fastest cars on the track which allowed me to overtake more cars. To drive up from P14 to 2 feels like a victory.“

Nico Menzel: „My home is only 8 minutes away from here, so the Nürburgring is my hometrack. In qualifying I was annoyed about myself, because the pole position would have been possible here. Run 1 was perfect for that: After half a lap we were in front and then I was able to open a gap of 3-4s. Beitske could defend that well and that was the victory. In run 2, Beitske had a mega start. After the takeover I switched for 2-3 laps in qualifying mode. This made us just pass the KTM and I overtook the later champion afterwards. The McLaren was too far away in front, so I preferred to save tires towards the end in case there would be a safety car, but unfortunately that didn’t happen.“

Teamowner Marek Zuchowski „For me it was overwhelming to see how my team clearly dominated the second half of the GT4 European Series season. In the last 4 races we achieved 2 overall victories and 3 more podium places. No other team did that in 2018! In the end it was enough for our drivers and also the team for front places in all categories. That reflects the course of the season with a difficult beginning and a brilliant development in the further course.

All in all, I am infinitely proud of the performance of the entire team and all the drivers. I’d like to thank everyone, especially BMW Motorsport for providing us with great cars and entrusting us with fantastic BMW Juniors. After the race is before the race – I’m looking forward to the 2019 season with great excitement and confidence“
